Today, as it is at every part of life, it has started to become an obligation to use environment sensitive materials, in traffic management applications.
Thus; this concept is not only used to improve current situation but it is also a long deferred and long sight required approach. As long as we live, using resources appropriately will make our lives easier. Moreover, as we inherit our future to next generations who deserve to have a well balanced life, it is also very important.

In developing countries, investments related with traffic constitute a big part of city politics. As population density taken into consideration, Istanbul is a city that requires detailed plannings about traffic applications.
Development continuity is associated with resource continuity; it is summarized with “ while today’s requirements are supplied, at the same time next generations' requirements should also be improved without tolerance” “ slogan. In accordance with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality‘s “Sustainable Improvement Concept”, environment friendly technologies should be used and should have preference priority.
All projects about traffic are implemented by considering three main topics:

3-) Using alternative energy resources

At first installation, using Incandescent Traffic Lamps for traffic signalization is cost effective, but it consumes lots of energy and its maintenance cost is high. Due to its disadvantages like consuming high energy and disability to be recognized easily at day light , LED (Light Emitting Diodes) are started to be used instead of Incandescent Trafficl amps.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is one of the first municipalities in the world that LED based signalized intersections are applied. LED based signalized intersections are started to be installed since the year 2000.
